18th century artist whose paintings of Naples are now being highly valued for their originality and modernity; marked by major exhibitions in Cardiff and London. His work was purchased by Catherine the Great for St Petersburg's Hermitage museum. 'The Bard' (1774) is among the most important Welsh paintings at The National Gallery of Wales.
