Byrd has produced a large and impressive body of work without a great deal of support and recognition in Wales. He was approached by York Castle Museum who wanted to give his kinetic pieces a permanent home but he wanted to keep them within Wales. They are currently stored in Swansea Grand Theatre

My name is Alison (Owen) Nicholls. And I am a published poet/writer residing in Canada-age 54. I am Charles Byrd's (maternal) second cousin through my mother Joscelyn (Jo) Owen and Grandnan Olive Williams. My mother and I wish him the very best at the 2008 Welsh Eisteddfod and are so proud to know such a creative member of our family is being recognized for his unique achievements and contribution to the arts!
