Absolute nonsense! The ancestral home of the Washington's is Sulgrave Manor in Northamptonshire.

George Washington's grandmother was most likely of Welsh descent. She is listed in various records as being born in West Chester. Her maiden name was Bennett. In the Washington Monument about half way up you can see a stone inscribed 'Fy Iaith, Fy Ngwlad, Fy Nghenedl Cymru - Cymru am Byth!' - ('My Language, My Land, My Nation of Wales - Wales for Ever!'). This of course could have been written buy the people building the monument.

The Welsh inscription on the Washington monument has nothing to do with Washington. He was purely English.
Ed Says "Churchill was English too but had an American mother. Churchill wasn't American yet who can deny the man did not have an affinity with America. The point is, Washington was clearly American with British roots. No one is trying to say he was Welsh."
