Her mother Doris was Welsh and reputedly a fine singer as well.

I was named Petula, as my father was a fan. I have met Petula Clark and she has telephoned me at home. She is a very warm and sincere person and we chatted for over twenty-five minutes before she went on stage at the Urdd National Eisteddfod which was held in Merthyr Tydfil in 1987.

This is directed at the media in Wales, Petula has just finished a very successful tour that included Wales, but not one mention in the Welsh press. Considering she is half Welsh she gets a very raw deal, we have to remember she is the most successful British female artist in popular music history. It will be no good saying 'oh she was Welsh ', when she is no longer with us! Well here at the Famous Welsh website we're very glad to have her with us, a superb voice and a lovely lady too! - Ed
