Renaissance writer and poet writing under the pen name "Orinda". Founder of "The Society of Friendship", influential group of poets of the day.
Connection: Born in Hackney, London. She was not Welsh but had very strong Welsh connections. Her step father Hector Philips was Welsh and indeed at the age of sixteen she married his son James who was forty five at the time.
